Hello,
I'd like to know if it's possible to use system tester to act as if it was managing a portfolio. Right now, if you enter the equity available and select all NASDAQ stocks, the system will test and run on individual stocks.
I would like the system to take into account that i have X in available equity, and then take positions based on that and report the results as a whole: The system bought X nb of stocks and returned X as net profit/loss.
If it's not possible now it sure would be nice for futur versions. I am currently using ThinkOrSwim and TC2000, and the only reason I was keeping Metastock was for that purposes. Thinkorswim system is really solid but only has 2 years of data. Would like to be able to test on 20-30 years.

Have a look at TradeSim which can do the portfolio level testing, which the MS EST cannot.

W. howdy down under. gene here. maybe u can help with this. i run a test on one stock and find optimal system. i plot on chart. how come the next day, when i download my EOD update, it doesn't update my "PLOT ON CHART" for that stock?

Gene,
The system test is a static report. X system on Y security over a set range of data will yield some set of results. This is not updated by downloading more data. You have to run the system test again to get the update.
If you want the signal to be updated automatically, you will need to use and Expert Advisor. However, the Expert Adviser can not do optimization.
