I got problem in assessing charts in "favorite".
If I move a chart from Local Data to favorite, and try to open that chart through Favorite, sometimes it returns an error message reading like "....[censored] is in accessible or removed...". If I press on, that is, I click cancel on the error message window and try to open again, another error message would appear reading something like "...DAL member not supported...."
wonder someone can help.
I was told by the EOD data provider that some link between Favorite and underlying data may be broken and might needs to be debugged.
What i did so far:
1) Reload Metastock program again, nothing fixed
2) looking into data through data provider's program, yes, data is there
3) looking into data through MetaStock's "New Chart" pass, yes, data is there.
However, as soon as i move the data to "Favorite", some charts will become inaccessible. Say "ABC". And then if I go back and look into that particular share ABC under Local Data, the whole "A" will appear to contain NO smart charts, nothing.
wonder if someone can help me.

To help Equis duplicate the error you might describe exactly how you are moving
files from local to favorites (step by step). I was having problems with smart charts, etc. and it turned out to be a bad default template. I created a new simple default template and
the problems disappeared.

When you add a chart/smart chart/layout into Favorites, the file is not moving at all. Favorites is simply a fancy link to the original chart. The data is not moved; it stays wherever the data resided in originally. There is a file in the MetaStock folder called FAVORITES.DTA. When you add something into favorites, favorites merely keeps track of that item by establishing a link to that item.

If that chart is moved, or the data is moved, the favorite will likely stop working because the favorite will still be looking for the chart/data in the original location.

I am having the same problem. My operating system is Windoes 7 & I am using MetaStock V11. Recently after updating my data I attempted to open my charts in favorites and received the following Error Message: "The DAL member is not supported". I then hit cancel and received the following Error Message: "The Smart Chart for this security is inaccessible or has been moved". When I check my Favorites Folder what should be FX Pairs are shown as "Unknown Item". Clicking on one of them I get the Message "Folder does not contain MetaStock Files". When I check the My Favorites Folder what should be FX Pairs are shown as Unknown Item. Clicking on one of them I get a MetaStock Message \"Folder does not contain MetaStock files\" When I open Local Data it says \"This folder is empty\" I then uninstalled my data including all history. Rebooted and installed the program again, including histroical data. The Data was installed correctly I opened MetaStock and all seemed to be working OK. I then ran the update and on completion opened MetaStock and back to where I started, same problem as detailed above. I contacted my Data supplier and detailed the problem as above. Their response was: It sounds like the file that indexes your Favourites (Favoutites.dta) has become corrupted. When this happens, and you attempt to open a security via Favourites, the master file controlling the data folder in question also gets corrupted, with the end result being that all the data in the folder is lost. Please try re-installing the Forex history again and then do an update to bring it up to date. Then access the data in MetaStock by way of Local Data (do not attempt to use Favourites). You should be able to view the data just fine. If so, the next thing to do is find the file Favourites.dta on your machine and delete it. This will cause you to lose all of your current Favourites. If you wish to access the data via Favourites in the future, you will have to build up your Favourites again. I did what they suggested and all seemed to be OK. I then re-built my favorites folder and everything still worked OK. Next day, updated my data and bang the same problem as detailed above. Can anyone help me resolve this, I have ran out of ideas. Regards Geoff

We have seen some odd behaviors when the Windows "User Access Control" ( UAC ) is enabled. One effect is our favorites feature is redirected to a favorites file in "My documents" instead of the file in the MetaStock program folder. I would suggest setting the UAC to disabled or never prompt (depending on windows flavor )
