Good afternoon I'm having a dilemma here: 1-I´m a esignal user that trade securities in US and Europe 2-I'm Thinking to buy Metastock for esignal BUT it appears that...
a- With US symbols everything will be ok b-With European stocks I don't know how to solve the problem of the apparent disparity between the esignal nomenclature and reuters datalink. For instance EDF Paris in esignal is EDF-PAR, in metastock is EDF-PA. How to solve this? If I'm going to make a subscription to reuters datalink for Europe, the problem may be solved for EOD data. But will this update in REAL time? Or I do I have to make a subscription of metastock RT data to get intraday data? If so, it doesn´t make sense as this option is expensive and besides I'm getting already realtime data from esignal.
Please help me in this matter as I'm starting to think that metastock for esignal should be called metastock for esignal US EDITION.[:(]

Actually we do not even have eSignal international symbols in our symbol database. What you probably saw was EDF.PA which is a Reuters DataLink symbol.
You can manually enter symbols into the Symbol Database. However, eSignal stores their international intraday history on a server that MetaStock is unable to communicate with. Because of this, for most international symbols you can only receive the tick by tick values, no historical prices. While you can collect "local intraday" securities, most people use data on demand because it is far easier to work with.
Also, there is a character limit to how long our symbols can be (I think it's around 14 or 16 characters). There are some symbols (in the asian markets I know for sure) that can be longer than this, and they would not work in MetaStock.
For these reasons, I personally would only recommend MetaStock Pro for eSignal for people trading U.S. symbols. You might want to consider MetaStock Pro for QuoteCenter if you trade European or Asian exchanges as well.

Dear Sir
First of all, thank you for your reply. I must say that I'm glad that someone from Equis has agreed with the fact that Europeans (and Asian customers and South America customers and so on) are not getting what they paid. But frankly I do not agree with the EXPLANATION of the fact. When you say "eSignal stores their international intraday history on a server that MetaStock is unable to communicate with" I think that the term "unable" should be replaced with " do not want". That's only my opinion. How do you explain that Amibrioker, Neoticker, Abletrend and Multicharts (to just name a few) are all "ABLE" to communicate with esignal?. It's because they have better engineers? Surely not. It's because they have found a complex solution? Surely not. I think that they communicate with esignal because they want and also they haven't...Quotecenter. Again, it's my opinion. Even for US customers I suspect that some indices are not compatible for the same reason: the problem is not with non-US customers but with this "strange" relunctacy in communicate with esignal. The real irony of this (besides the fact that this serious problem IS NOT stated on the buy page) is that the metastock esignal version is 300 USD above the price of the metastock quotecenter version. This 300 USD excludes the eod data or RT data that the non-US client must pay for getting their quotes. For a client that has esignal RT this is frankly a joke, specially for the prices of RT European and Asiatic markets (what? do i have to pay MORE 135 USD per month for RT quotes when I have already the quotes on my esignal? Are'n they giving a special discount for these customers? No Sir. You have to pay the all ride). That's all. Mind you, I think that Metastock is a great piece of software but frankly the esignal version should NOT exist in these conditions ( imagine that tomorrow the esignal code for apple or microsoft start to be APPL or MIST. Oh my, my...) Best regards
