Metastock v10 EOD upgrade to 10.1 PRO has been a DISASTER - HELP -

Have been using Metastock EOD for over a year, never a problem. Purchased the upgrade to the PRO version and my experience has been terrible. 50% of the time when I click on the Metastock desktop icon I get the Metastock splash screen and it just sits there, the program never starts. If I click on the splash screen it just simply goes away. Then if I click on the icon again Metastock opens right away, but... the moment I try to do anything in the program it crashes with mswin.exe caused a problem.
I have completely un-installed everything, deleted every directory having to do with metastock / equis, deleted all references in the registry to metastock and equis. Started fresh with a new install and after installing everything it still is right back where it started. Sometimes I get lucky, and it will start. But trying to get data from the quotecenter takes very long time, often times out before I get data for the security I want to view.
Never have I had any problems with Metastock, now that I got the PRO, it has been a disaster. Running XP SP2, a very clean machine here, verly little running on the task bar, even tried disabling all startup programs , yet metastock keeps crashing.
After 9 hours of trying to get this running (need for monday) I am about ready to give up and just go back to EOD, that at least worked!

hey rebel man..... pyradius or brandon might know best but here are a few things to ponder till they arraive.......
lookin at your first paragraph,.... the pro version can be opened in an 'on line' mode and an 'off line' mode..... can you open it in the offline mode ok...... it's important to think that thru..... if it works ok in the 'off line' mode, odds are it's the qc component that you might not be familar with.... it sounds like you've become accustomed to opening the eod version and are expecting the pro version to open as fast..... the qc version of v10 will start up much slower due to the fact it must go thru all the steps required to start up and login in to quotecenter, providing your online......and of course if your not on line it will never start at all.....
qc is a bandwith pig..... equis states a need for dsl or higher speeds..... using dial up will work but it takes longer to load up and get qc started......
lookin at your second paragraph...... metastock uninstalls easily but qc is a separate program in itself and uninstalling it can give you some grief..... but it sounds like your computer savy so surely you got that covered..... getting data from qc for v10 pro can be slow at times, again dsl speeds help..... and at times it will time out even when your running 6 meg, but then so will esignal......
there are some time out settings and also settings to limit the number of intraday records that might helpthere..... tools -> options -> realtime
lookin at your third paragraph..... metastock/qc is not a big system resource drain so unless you have an old machine with slow processor and low ram , running other programs should not be a factor..... i routinely have v10 pro, excell, esignal, metatrader, several etrades platforms, ms explorer and more all running at the same time.....
lookin at your last paragraph..... yeah,we have all been there..... don't give up just yet..... if the above does not help, use the equis online rep monday or give pyradius a shout.... i have called/emailed/online chatted with the support dept several times in the past with excellent results........ h

Just a FYI, clicking the splash screen while the program will always cause it to disappear. This really does not mean anything, nor does it cause the application to stop trying to open up (even though you can't see the splash screen). MetaStock Pro definitely takes longer to open than End-of-Day, but there are still a number of 3rd party issues that can complicate this: -Slow internet connection -Security applications (including the Windows Firewall) -Hardware routers (Most new routers also have security features in them) First I would perform a speed test at the following address: http://speedtest.xmission.comThe Upload and Download speeds both need to be at least 256k to work reliably. Software security applications need to be configured to allow all of our applications through. Make sure the following applications are permitted through: BFDAEMON.EXE (C:\Program Files\Equis\QuoteCenter) RBWS.EXE (C:\Program Files\Equis\QuoteCenter) EQDATSRV.EXE (C:\Program Files\Equis\MetaStock\Servers) MSWIN.EXE (C:\Program Files\Equis\MetaStock) For potential hardware routers sometimes it's best to temporarily bypass them completely to see if this makes any difference. They tend to be a bit more complex and varied in how to configure them.

After speaking with Metastock tech support we went through the speed issues (no problems there), computer speed (no problems there), firewall (no problems there, I don't run any software firewalls), Router (I bypassed port 14000 to be on the safe side). And after all these checks still keeps timing out.
So the tech had me change the server that Qutoe center links to, and all of a sudden it worked. So I spend an entire weekend fighting this installation when it was due to the Reuters servers being the cause. So now I have a custom list of equis/reuters servers. And when one does not work, I reconfigure the connection options to use the other server.
I would rather see equis/quote center FIX the server problems and stop making me have to play "which one works today game"
