Good morning all...

After wracking my brain and giving myself a headache trying to create a template, I thought I'd post this inquiry here. I think the answer is, what I want to do can't be done. But never hurts to check with the expert programmers!

When I analyze charts, I create a layout that contains two rows of three columns. Column 1 has daily charts. Column 2 displays weekly charts (from the daily data). Colume 3 has monthly charts (from the daily data). Row 1 (the daily, weekly, monthly charts on top) has one set of indicators (all of which are the same in each chart). Row 2 (the daily, weekly, monthly charts on bottom) has a different set of indicators (all of which are the same in each chart).

What I'm trying to create is a master template that will have the indicators already built in BUT will not display them until I select a symbol for each chart.

In other words, when I open the master template I want to create, MS displays something that looks like this.

Then, when I select a symbol for each chart, in this example SLV, voila...I then have something that looks like this without my having to manually input each of the templates, set its parameters, etc.

Once a symbol is selected, the indicators automatically pop up because the master template was already set up to calculate them.

Have I been wracking my brain in vain because it's not possible, or have I completely missed the boat?

I'll say thanks in advance because I know someone out there knows how to do this if it's possible! I've gotten tons of great help from the forum in the past!

Let me see if I got straight:

I think you need to change one option to do what you want!

Tools > Options > Change All Charts in Layout

That is it!

hey jon .... good question..... thanks.... we all learn from them.....

that's actually how things work now.... first let's make sure we are using the terms template and layout the same....

a common layout would be one as in your second picture..... it appears your sliver layout contains 6 seperate charts, unless more are in the background......

open it..... now 'save as' a well named template.... what you have just created is a template of your layout....

that's important.... for layouts will allow you to scroll through the folder but not cross into another.... but a multi-chart template can be applied to anything anywhere....

next time when you open 'qqqq' just use the option to 'open with' and select the master template you previously made....

speaking of etf's and missing the boat, the 'smh' dropped an anchor last week ..... h

Fantastic, Hayseed! This is exactly what I was trying to figure out how to do!

With respect to anchors dropping, my thought is that there will be a lot of anchors dropping in the not too distant future. Ah, but we shall just have to wait and see what the markets do. Unfortunately, I have no control over them, just try to figure out what they're telling me...as we all are doing. :-)
