I have updated the Downloader with the latest symbol files by going to the Tools drop down and selecting "Update Symbol Database". The symbol database downloads, however when I try to use the "Look Up" function in Downloader I get the following error messages:
"Failed To Load Sectors And Industries Symbol File. File Not Found."
And:
"Error Reading Symbol File: Symbol Database File Not Found."
Does anyone know what my problem could be ?? Any help would be greatly
appreciated. I am using MS 9.0.
Thank you for your help.

hey sky.... have you by chance switched from meta 9.1 or 9.2 back to 9.0......and if so, did the move involve changing your realtime vendor...... and if so, do you have all 3 versions on the same computer....
the downloader can't find the xml document 'SectorsAndIndustries90'....... that xml doc appears to be just for our benifit but both the downloader and meta need it ...... the symbol database is a dta file, 'SymbolDatabase90' for version 9......
can you look in the downloader folder for both those...... SectorsAndIndustries90 xml and SymbolDatabase90 dta ..... the spelling has to be exact with no spaces.....h

Hi Hayseed,
Thanks for your reply. I have only had MS 9.0 and no other version installed on my PC.
Yes both files are in the Downloader folder exactly as you have listed them. The SectorsAndIndustries90.xml file is dated 1/27/06 and the SymbolDatabase90.dta is dated 2/3/06. Still no go.
Do you have any other suggestions ??
Thanks.

hey sky..... restarting your computer once or twice then restarting meta should reload the 2 files which should clear the error.... you've probably already done that.... i'll study on it some more......
windows, assuming your using microsoft, will remember certain instructions, settings and capabilities given when you first start up meta untill the computer is shut down..... if for some reason there was a glitch , even though the files are there, the program might not see them because the time for lookin is past, the start up..... as is happening....
it's similar to why we must restart meta after adding a new dll..... even though the dll is clearly in the folder, meta can't see it cause it checks the dll folder at start up and not after.....
someone that has multiple versions of metastock on the same computer and uses the quick switch method to switch from version to version, will get the same type errors.... those 2 files are version specific and require restart..... i'll study on it some more....h

You can try deleting both "symboldatabase" and "sectorsandindustries" files and performing Tools>Update Symbol Database again. There is also a section in MetaStock's Tools>Options called File Locations. Make sure the DownLoader path is correct. Sometimes even if it appears correct, browse to the DownLoader folder again and click Ok. It's also possible something happened to the registry for the file paths. You could try launching MetaStock while holding down Ctrl-Shift, but be aware this resets all options in MetaStock back to the defaults. You must answer Yes to the Delete User Settings prompt, and type in your first/last name for the Username Not Found message and click Ok. If you use an online vendor such as Reuters DataLink, you may need to go back into Tools>Options and click the vendor tab and type in your user ID/password.

Pyradius & Hayseed,
I tried all of your suggestions, without luck. I put in my MS CD and reloaded MS, and that did the trick. I think you were right in that the registry somehow got messed up. Anyway, I am up and running. Thanks for your help guys.
