Hi I bought MetaStock9.0 and I forked out $1,500.00 Now I look and if I want to download data I have to pay another monthly fee. Is there anywhere I can go to dowload free data?
Thanks

A friend of mine bought a car and forked out $25K.
You can just imagine his disappointment when he realized that he had to pay for the car's fuel on an continuing basis.
Yahoo offers free data, for what it's worth.
However, if you plan to take system development and trading seriously, you will need quality data.

hey vari.... compared to the cost of commissions , data might be the cheapest of the 2...... from the price you payed it sounds like meta realtime...... yahoo is likely to be 20 minutes delayed and you could possibly need something like hq quotes, unless your handy with building scripts for stripping quotes.....
in any event, easy to see your dissappointment which should be directed at the seller...... they should have explained the data deal, before any purchase..... kinda think once you get past that data shock you'll be pleased with meta......h

I am presently acquiring realtime data from local supplier - Phillips (Hong Kong).
However, Phillips only provides HSF (Hangsang futures). I am interesting in acquiring tick data for other markets like DOWS futures, Light cruel oil, gold...etc. (real-time or end-of-day are interested).
May I know where and how can I apply these services? And fees?
Thanks.

Whitehorse, take a look at PremiumData's excellent service.
BTW, I have no financial interest whatsoever in PremiumData services - just a very satisfied customer. :)

Thanks for your replies, I bought the RT software as a investment for the future but only really need the end of day quotes and thats why I was trying to aquire free data. When I feel ready to become a daytrader is when I'll use realtime data and actually pay for it. I am having trouble actually trying to add yahoo data to MS. Is MS RT only for Real time data or can I download both?
Thanks :D

hey vari..... if your not going to be using realtime, it's best to crank up meta in the offline mode..... you can use the downloader to input historical data.... at the almost bottom of the yahoo pages is a link to download to spread sheet..... yes, you can use the downloader to create historical intraday files, it's not real downloading however the result is the same as..... the downloader is primarily for eod downloads.....
the next 5 days, using nothing more than meta and the 'smh' should pay for eod data ..... trading without it is possible but ,,,,, ...... it's going to be a good week.....h

Using the link above as an example:
1. d/l the data to your computer.
2. Open it in Excel.
3. Delete ColG: 'adjusted close'.
4. SaveAs *.xls.
5. Close worksheet.
6. Open the Downloader.
7. Select TOOLS | CONVERT and answer the questions. The source type will be Excel and the destination will be MetaStock.
