I am thinking about purchasing Metastock Pro for Esignal. I am currently an Esignal Pro subscriber with the live market feed. The base annual cost is 1800.00 per year prepaid. I am a relatively new investor and am currently learning quite a bit about all the technical indicators that investors use. On the surface it appears that a lot of the features in Metastock are already included in Esignal. I am looking for comments both pro and con on the value of purchasing Metastock for Esignal. Thank you in advance. TDINC

HI TDINC... Well - Don't take this as a sales-y thing. I was going to wait for someone else to reply but then wanted to add my two cents. It really is going to depend on what sorts of things you want to do. I know that the eSignal offers a lot of technical analysis tools. And while it is true that MetaStock has more... if you don't use them then it might be an un-necessary expediture. If you are interested in the MetaStock Pro for eSignal I would recommend doing the subscription. It's somewhere around the $100/month range but you could at least have alook with small risk (yes we do have the 30 day money back guarantee but you would have to lay out the $1695.00 up front - might as well play with it for a couple of months and not have that 30 day deadline looming over you). The real benefit that MS can offer over eSignal is going to be with QuoteCenter. QuoteCenter is the real time data feed that we released in June this year. It has waaaay more historical info, over 700 data fields that you can use, and tons of fundamental data and news. I know you are locked into a contract with eSignal so that isn't going to happen but keep it in mind for when your contract has like a month or two left. When you are down to a couple of months - pick up QC. Just before you have to commit then you make a decision. Since we don't lock you into anything... it is fairly easy. <she says tongue firmly planted in cheek :) > Hope I haven't confused you more! Good luck with your decision making! :) M Anyone else going to chime in here??? :)

Thanks Marilyn - I did not take your response as a sales pitch and I do appreciate the candid info. I can see where MS has an advantage with data when it comes to backtesting etc. I haven't even got that far yet with what im learning. I'm still trying to understand how the different indicators work. The monthly subscription may be the way to go to see which software I prefer. It's probably going to take me a year to fully grasp everything anyway. I am tempted though by MetaStock's holiday offer of 1495.00 for the Metastock Pro for Esignal! TDINC

Sportrider - I'm glad you commented about how helpful everyone is here. I posted the same question that is in this thread on Esignal's board 10 days ago and no one responded. All of you keep up the good work - you may have a new colleague soon. :) TDINC

Hey TD... If you are interested in how the indicators work you might want to check out the Technical Analysis from A to Z book written by our founder, Steve Achelis. It is sort of a dictionary of indicators with explanations. If you want to check it out go here... https://www.metastock.co...urces/TAAZ/Default.aspx? There will be a nag screen every so often asking you to register for our email updates (Yep - that is me nagging... :P ) But you can read the book for free. If you want to own it we sell it on the website for 39.95 (sticker price) but if you go to www.metastock.com/HolidaySpecials2005 (the holiday pricing) you can get it for 29.95... don't tell anyone that I sent you to the sale page :-k :) I think that you can also get them at any of our workshops... the benefit of doing that is that there is no shipping fees. Even if it isn't at the show, we will ship it for free. :) As far as the email nagging.. if you sign up you get a cookie that lets you around all the nag screen. Here is what you are signing on for... If you choose; - Equis Updates - you get info about upgrades... special offers (about 1 or 2 a month)... that's about it. - Free Events - email invitations if we are coming to your area. - 3rd party - 3rd party email. We really don't send those out (and we never lease or sell our list!!!) but I left in so you can uncheck something and not miss out on the other ones! :)

Marilyn - thankyou for all the tips. I actually have the book but did not realize the Author's connection to Metastock. Of course if I open the darn thing i would probably learn a few things! I am currently reading Thomas Meyers "The Technical Analysis Course" which I highly recommend for beginners. TDINC
