My favorite tool, Everything, might help you find it: http://www.voidtools.com/

MetaStock only uses favorites from a file named "Favorites.dta"  If it is not using the one in the Equis\MetaStock folder, then you must have at least one more stored somewhere on your computer.  At this point, all I can suggest is a through search of your system in all drives and folders all copies of favorites.dta
Thanks, but I just tried all that (again) with the same result. Even tried Voidtools, deleted all the favorites.dta files, then copied over the one from my desktop, but up popped (as always) the previous favorites.dta file when I opened the favorites folder. I can only assume my laptop is performing some interesting magic trick then?

Hmmmm. Well, my previous file finder was http://www.ztree.com/. If you give it a try, press "F" for filespec, type in "fav*.dta", then press "S" for showall. FWIW, you can still buy Windows XP on Ebay...or maybe run it virtually.
