There is no central popup to tell you that a new private message exists. You just have to check them. You can get to PM's by clicking on INBOX in the upper righthand corner of the screen or on the home page by clicking PRIVATE MESSAGES.
You do get an email to your address on file when a message arrives.
I'm looking into a mod that will give us the popup too. If I can make it work, I'll let you know.
