What is RSS? RSS stands for "Really Simple Syndication". RSS feeds are posted in a format called XML. Equis Forums is using RSS to deliver summaries of ‘All Topics’, ‘Formulae’, ‘Hayseed’s Tips’, ‘Jose’s Corner’, and ‘dll Development’. You can hotlink to one of these XML files by clicking on the bright orange box beside the topic name in the navigator menu under Feeds. Beware, these links are subject to change as the forum undergoes development. http://forum.equis.com/rss.phpbsite, without constant updating. With a one-time setup, the Equis RSS feeds can automatically post forum news on your website. How Do I Get Started? You can have RSS feeds delivered to you in several ways: 1) Using a standalone desktop reader such as FeedDemon, NetNewsWire, RssReader, or SharpReader. These programs run independently of other software. 2) Using an E-mail client such as Mozilla's Thunderbird or the NewsGator plug-in for Apple Mail, Entourage, Eudora, Outlook and other POP3 E-mail clients. 3) Using a Web browser with an appropriate subscription service such as Bloglines, NewsGator Online or Pluck Web Edition. 4) Using a mobile device with an appropriate subscription service such as Elfinland, FeedBeep, NewsGator Mobile Edition, or Yahoo Mobile. 5) Using your existing website with an appropriate interpreter such as FeedForAll. What About Freebies? Perhaps the easiest way to get started is by using the free Google IG personalized webpage. You will have to create an account, but there is no charge. Once created, select ADD CONTENT | CREATE A SECTION and paste the appropriate Equis RSS link into the textbox. You can then arrange the summary or modify the summary as you see fit. Alternatively, and a much more versatile solution is to use the free web-based Google RSS Reader. While still in Beta release, I’m sure you’ll discover how powerful its features are. Plus, it works across most browsers and operating systems including: IE 6 Windows, Firefox 1.0+ Windows Mac Linux, Safari 1.3+ Mac, Netscape 7.2+ Windows Mac Linux, and Mozilla 1.7+ Windows Mac Linux. For a neat and concise overview, check out this flash introduction. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. I have implemented most all of the ways during testing and we have been able to debug all of the known issues.
