Hi guys,

I ws wondering how could I get eod metastock data for free?
One of the method would be getting CSV files for yahoo and converting them using metastock. However, this is very time consuming... I found some programs on the web (e.g. HQuote) but they are not freeware. I am sure such a program that simply downloads data and converts it to mtastock format should exisit...

Another possibility would be using eod.com, but it gives only quotes for a single day at a time...

Does any1 know about such free one?

10x :)

Hi,

A little advice for free data.

Remember, you may find free data from other source i feel sorry cant help you at this (free data), but you should ensure the reliability (errors) of it get.

Any thing you get free is .......... For reliability and accuracy of the signals and indicator readings;

- you must have error free data

- Should have minimum 5 years.

- Backtesting is also important.

I know using CSV files and converting them is time consuming but you get started up with the securities of your interests only. Some exchanges offer Level 1 and Level 2 data services too at nominal charge.

Why not to have a data of the <Broad market index> and spot the major trend and ride with it.

Hi,

Well, riding just with the index is surely not enough. I want to ride the "strong horses" :)

As for transforming the CSV files. It is indeed a bit time consuming if done manually. However it is not such a coplicated thing to write a program that does it automatically, and there are indeed such on the web. However, they are not free. :(

Thus, I was wondering which freeware exists ( and I was sure soem of the members here use such tools)...

You get what you pay for.

If you want to make trading decisions based on inaccurate and/or erroneous data then you're going to be in for a rude shock when you start to lose money.

Pay for good quality, clean and updated data and you'll be better off from the very start.

Do a search of the "Data Related Questions" section of the forum and see what others have written.

Hello,

I would like to use some low quality free historical data :) because I'm just gonna use it for study, not trading yet. I'm can't seem to figure out how to get the historical data from somewhere for free in that format that Metastock requires.

From yahoo finance I saw you can get some csv files, but I think you have to do this for every particular stock you are interested in. If this is so, after I get the csv files how can I use them with Metastock?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you.

You can download CSV file from yahoo. Now save the file as excell spreadsheet. Open The Downlaoder from MEtastock->tools menu.

in The Downloader,

go to tools, convert->.

Select file type as xls and press ok.

You will get converted file in the folder you specified.

Since metastock is looking to get rid of the downloader and force everybody into a premium Xenith package, you should try this site for data

I've never found a better data feeder than ktStock. It supports all MetaStock versions.

check this out. It is the biggest free data base I found. It is polish site, but it contains lots of instruments from whole world - us, europe, asia (indexes, stocks, futures, bonds, fundamental economy data)

I see it has been a while since ideas for free data were suggested.  Are there any recent ways of getting the EOD or real time data for free or a reasonable price?  All suggestions will be appreciated.
