Equis and John Murphy Team Up to Announce "CPR" software

SALT LAKE CITY, September 3, 2001 - Predicting where the markets are likely to go has always been the aim of analysts, no matter what their methods. Now there's a new tools to make market prediction easier for every investor and trader. The makers of MetaStock, Equis International (a Reuters company) have teamed up with John Murphy of MurphyMorris to create MetaStock Chart Pattern Recognition (CPR), a new plug-in for MetaStock. CPR allows traders and investors to identify classic, "tried-and-true" chart patterns through their MetaStock software.

"There's no other product for investors that works like John Murphy's CPR. We are tremendously excited about it," says Allan McNichol, president and CEO of Equis. "John and his business partner, Greg Morris, have contributed their incomparable expertise to help us make one of the most powerful and educational tools for technical analysis on the market today." McNichol says that Equis is looking forward to more partnerships with solution providers such as Murphy and Morris in the future.

What Are Chart Patterns?

Chart Patterns are pictures or formations that may appear on price charts of stocks, commodities, or other types of securities. Repeatedly, these patterns have been shown to have predictive value. Chart patterns are classified into two groups:

  • Those that predict a reversal in a trend, and
  • Those that predict the continuation of a trend.

CPR takes the guesswork out of identifying these patterns.

Key Features

The reversal patterns identified by CPR include

  • Head and Shoulders
  • Inverse Head and Shoulders
  • Triple Tops
  • Triple Bottoms
  • Double Tops
  • Double Bottoms

Continuation patterns that are detected include

  • Symmetric Triangles
  • Ascending Triangles
  • Descending Triangles

CPR allows traders to verify the patterns they identify with John Murphy's own expert commentary and to highlight the patterns on their charts with colorized bars and labels. CPR includes explorations that will automatically scan through thousands of securities looking for specific patterns. It will also filter out everything but the securities that are most likely to produce the best trading opportunities.

System Requirements

The minimum configuration required to run CPR includes MetaStock 7.0 (or higher), Microsoft Windows 95, 98, or NT 4.0 (or higher), a Pentium 166, 32 MB of RAM, and 50 MB of free hard disk space.

The recommended configuration includes a 233 MHz (or faster) processor, 128 MB of RAM, and 50 MB of free hard disk space for installation.

Pricing and Availability

CPR is regularly priced at US$399, but it's currently being sold for US $299 plus shipping and handling. CPR can be ordered by phone at 801-265-8886 or 800-882-3040, by fax at 801-265-3999, or by email at sales@equis.com. More information and online ordering are available at http://www.metastock.com.

About MurphyMorris

John Murphy and Greg Morris joined forces in 1996 to produce educational products and services for investors. "There was a void in quality software products that truly focus on investor education," says Morris, "probably because software developers were not necessarily knowledgeable in the financial arena."

John J. Murphy has been an analyst with CNBC television and is the best-selling author of three books (Technical Analysis of the Futures Markets is universally considered the leading reference on the subject). He is also a highly acclaimed expert on intermarket relationships, a newsletter editor, and an internationally known speaker. Murphy has been actively involved in market analysis and commentary for almost 30 years.

Gregory L. Morris is an investment analysis software developer, an author, and a frequent speaker at seminars, both in the United States and internationally. Morris has been actively involved in investment software development for over 15 years and has been an active trader for over 20 years.
