This question is in regards to MetaStock 11, Enhanced System Tester.  Your help greatly appreciated.

What is the default date range used?  I would hope that MetaStock would automatically use ALL dates from all securities selected, whatever dates are present in a security's data file.

Is this the case?

In Perform Trading Simulation, Simulation Dates, Data Selection, there are two choices only:

-- Use price data from _____ to _____.

-- Use price data from the last _____ available periods.

I'd think there should be an option to "Use all dates available."

Different securities in a folder have different number of days in their respective data file.  These differences can be substantial.

Would be quite difficult to find out the specific number of days in each, or the specific date ranges for each, and enter that into the tester.  Quite cumbersome.

I'm hoping that MetaStock's default behavior is to use ALL data present.

Please confirm, or tell me what actually happens.

Thanks much, Nicholas Kormanik

You can have (around) 65500 bars of data in a chart (slightly more in a data file) 50000 bars in a system test and 32767 in an exploration.... It makes sense to limit all charts, system tests and explorations to the smallest value 32767 to avoid "dissimilarities" between these functions. People have been asking for years to have this "anomaly" fixed....

Thanks for responding Wabbit. By experimenting it appears that a 'dates' solution is to: Perform Trading Simulation --> Dates, "Use price data from the last ______ available periods." Put in a large number, say, 10,000. Then securities will be processed with whatever amount of days they have (up to 10,000, in present case). Please confirm this advice. Thanks again.

You can load up to 50000 bars of data in a system test. If there is less data in the file, all of the data will be used for the test; if there is more data in the file, only the most recent specified number of bars will be used in the test.
